Before the fun

Smith’s Family Funfair at Bartons Point Coastal Park, Isle of Sheppey, England. These fairground bumper cars or dodgems were lined up ready before opening time. I took the image for the reflection. Really pleased with this image, I shot this handheld at a 1/15 sec at f/5.6 as the bright sunlight outside placed the cars in deep shadow, having used my Weston Master V meter to get a reading off the first car.

The Companion

Don’t often do still life photography very much now, but when my wife brought home this lovely old typewriter from her mother’s, I just had do something on black and white film. After some online research I discovered this Imperial typewriter dates from the year 1942, complete with it’s original case and is still in full working order.

Taken with a Nikon FE, with a Tamron 90mm SP AF Macro
F/2.8 Di on Fomapan 100 Classic film. Mounted on my Manfrotto 144, lighting from natural light from a nearby window and I used a timed exposure of 4 seconds at f/22. Film developed in Kodak D76 for 9 minutes at 20ºc

Mother

I don’t normally take portraits, but this image I am very pleased with. This is my mother in law, now in her eighties, a great grandmother and I’m sure you will agree she makes a fine black and white portrait picture.

I took this shot hand held with just natural daylight from the nearby window.

Taken in July 2016 on a Nikon FE, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 Ai on Fomapan 400 Action film, developed in Kodak D76 for 12.5 minutes at 20ºc.

Tattoo

Another picture from the Leica. I’m finding street photography so much easier with the rangefinder camera.

Image taken on the Minster Leas, Isle of Sheppey, England. First good day of summer weather last month when I saw this couple sitting on the seafront talking, It was then I noticed this lady’s tattoos across her back, her hand gesture and with the older couple walking past, it completed the shot.

Residential kitten

This picture just works for me. I took the image of the kitten tucked up in the corner of the window not realising I had captured the window reflection of the houses and washing opposite. I was more worried about getting my own reflection out of the frame at the time!

Fearless

While walking home with my wife, camera always in hand I saw this teenage girl walking on the top of the sea wall in Sheerness. Before I snapped this picture she was running along the seawall. Very silly really, it’s a 20 foot drop to the footpath below!

I’m starting to relearn how to use zone focusing with this camera. It has really taken me back to basics with this camera, and this image was taken using the sunny sixteen rule.

Shore Bones

Taken on Sheerness seafront, one of the old Victorian groynes slowly being weathered away which has given the timbers over the years the look of old bones. One part of the wood the grain looks like a some sort of tribal tattoo.
